Sara Calvanelli (accordion)

Equally at home as classical concert soloist, free-form improviser or chamber musician, delivering folk-music in a pub, experimenting with electronic music wizards, rendering outrageously authentic performances of Reinassance and Baroque repertoire, studio recording with indie-rock acts, touring as on-stage musician in internationally acclaimed circus-theatre shows, or championing the music of living composers, Sara Calvanelli is one of a thriving new generation of artists who unseat established ideas and forms.

More an all-round musician with her accordion than merely an accordionist, Sara always aims at developing an individual approach to making music which is as painstakingly rigorous and profound as it is free and defying conventions and borders of sort.

Among the many artists with whom she has developed and shared her music making: author and director at Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Eloize Daniele Finzi Pasca, harpist and producer Floraleda Sacchi, soundscapist, composer and pianist Pietro Bonanno, composers Marco Betta, Francesco Leineri, Giovanni Di Giandomenico, Rocco Abate and Maria Bonzanigo, soprano Francesca Adamo, accordionist Loris Facchin, pianist and composer Valentina Casesa, singer and performer Moira Albertalli (with whom Sara is Les Pralines), arranger and pianist Guido Facchini, indie-pop singer Carlot-ta, folk singer Bruno Vergani, pianist Gilda Buttà.

In close collaboration with the production duo made up of composers/producers Gianluca Cangemi and Luca "Satomi" Rinaudo, Sara is working on several album recording projects, to be released soon on industry-redefining label Almendra Music, whose concept and model Sara contributed to rise and design.
Beside her continuing personal music training, she has also studied at Conservatory "Giuseppe Verdi", Milan, in the accordion class of Sergio Scappini.
